Another Book Review
Taken from the blog Triangulations. Props to my husband and Andrew for making me aware of it.
| Level of Certainty: | Moderate |
| Openness: | Totally Open |
| Degree of Outreach: | Passive (I'm planning on becoming more open in the future, but not now) |
| Present Religious Participation: | Abstaining (rare) |
| Stance toward Categorically Rejecting Religion: | Indifferent |
| Degree of Enchantment | Enchanted (Though neutral some of the time) |
| Mystical Perceptions: | Non-Mystical (But I do enjoy playing with rune stones for the mere fun of it.) |
| Theory of Religion: | Religion is just a way to answer questions people ask but don't have answers to. (i.e. worship of sun god because sun brings life, etc.). And humans like to have answers, even if they are bad ones. |
| Non-theistic Leanings | Non-dualist pantheist. I don't believe in magical forces, but I do believe in reality, balance, and that we came out of nature, we are nature, and we fool ourselves by trying to pretend we are not the cosmos itself. (See Alan Watts and Carl Sagan) I like how Dawkins described pantheism as "sexed up atheism." |
| Secular Superstitious or Irrational Habits | Hmm... Nothing stands out too much. I do knock on wood, and feel incredibly uncomfortable if someone opens up an umbrella indoors. And while I do and feel this, I know it's ridiculous, but old habits die hard. I also have a strange affinity toward greek evil eye stones and amulets... |
| View of Reason | I value reason very highly. If I didn't, I'd still be going to church (oh snap). |
| Faith Items | hmm... I'm having a hard time answering this one. Love? |
| Past Belief History | Former Believer |
| Past Orthopraxy History | Former Practitioner (casual) |
| Past Sect History | Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) |

I'm such a...trendsetter? (even though I didn't even make the table, haha)
I just read the "sexed up atheism" quote last night...
Loved it!
Andrew- You have an influence! :D
Koda- I heard it not long ago as well... Well a couple of months ago. And it hasn't left my mind!
Nice table ! ;-)
Fun blog ! Love the name "Hypatia" ! Are you also a mathematician? or have Greek blood? And I trust Christians do not wrought the same fate on you as they did on Hypatia because of your blog. (smile!)
May I ask, how did you blurr your photo with the squares? What software and what technique -- very nice !
Concerning your chart: Very nice explanations !
I'd put the rune stones under superstition. I will post on "mystical" shortly and hope to clarify that category.
I love your non-theistic explanation -- I will have to look into that more.
BTW, if you want, consider adding me to your blog list -- I'd love to add you to my Friends tab. Just a thought. Looks like we have lots in common.
Andrew is a great leader !! :-)
Sabio- Thanks! And yes, I hope I don't end up like Hypatia of old, however, I have a feeling that in today's day and age, that won't happen.
::knocks on wood::
Anywho, for my pic, I edited it in gimp. I used the artistic option under "filters" and chose the cubism effect. It was actually pretty easy, and gimp is open source, which is nice. :)
I am not sure that I have greek blood (my great grandparents were italian), but my real name is also greek. That will be all the hint I am willing to give out about my name for the time being. hehe
But yes, I suppose you are right about the rune stones thing. I just play with them in the same spirit that I play any other "game" though... Perhaps I should move them, although they don't hold the same sway over me as "knocking on wood" does for instance.
I will add you to my blog list, and I would love to be added to yours! I look forward to conversing with you more in the future! Thanks for the chart! :D
And yes! Andrew is a great leader! He inspired me when I first came onto the blogosphere, and still does! :D
@ Hypatia
So, are you a Mathematician?
If not, how did you find Hypatia?
I have gladly added you to my friend list. Could you go check it out to see if the infor is correct and help me add more if you can.
Thanx for adding me to yours.
BTW, concerning your Rune Stones (which I have never explored, yet). You might enjoy my little essay of Tofu and I-Ching. I am curious if you find it applicable to your a attraction to the Rune stones.
BTW2, you may also enjoy my post on "Your God is Weird" -- let me know what you think. Did I make any Mormon mistakes? (thanks)
Sabio- No. I am not a mathemetician. But I was a philosophy major, and since the death of the philosopher Hypatia marked the end of an age of enlightenment, she's always been of interest of me.
She also was in charge of the Library in Alexandria, and I am on the career path to becoming a librarian. :)
She is just one of those women in history whom I admire, so I took her name to keep mine discreet.
I will check those links out. Thanks, man! :)
